Fresh off their initial album, Hellscape, Baton Rouge-based Karma and the Killjoys are on the cusp of something big. The female-led, piano-rock band is comprised of Rain Scott-Catoire (keys, vocals), Sydni Myers (vocals), Thomas Vercher (drums), Tim Marchand (bass), and Michael Blount (guitar). Founding members Scott-Catoire and Myers write the band’s songs and compose the quintet’s music.
The band's piano-forward sound blends rock, pop, and phenomenal vocal harmonies. Their genre-defying music is reminiscent of Fiona Apple, Muse, Elton John, Danny Elfman, Tori Amos, Gwen Stefani, Madness, Ben Folds Five, and Meat Loaf. With the release of their impressive freshman album, the bar has been set high. The band At the Starlight derived their name from a song lyric by another group, which goes, "Throwing rocks at the starlight." The guitarist, Dari, was fond of the phrase and proposed it to the other band members—Anabel, Jino, and Jeremy—who agreed on it through a vote. Born from a chance online encounter, the band has grown and evolved to include some of the simplicity and polish associated with pop-rock while maintaining ties to folk influences from its roots.
